How do I capture and adequately express the true gratitude, acknowledgement and appreciation for one of the world's greatest sporting heroes?
I will start by saying thank you.
Lauren Elizabeth Jackson, thank you..... Thank you for being one of the most amazing women in sport the world has seen. Thank you for having the willpower and determination to take our wonderful sport to the next level. Thank you for all you have given and continue to give. Thank you for all of the years of true blood, sweat and tears. Thank you for being the ultimate role model so many men, women and children look up to and aspire to be. Thank you for all you have sacrificed in the name of basketball. Thank you for being so unbelievably talented, yet so humble.
Throughout your career you have maintained and upheld the true Lauren I am so fortunate to know. You are the most courageous, kind, determined and selfless person one could strive to become. You are the ultimate role model, so giving and so focused on creating an environment where everyone exceeds beyond their wildest dreams.
Without you, basketball would not be the same. Lauren, you have given Australian basketball a true identity, a direct reflection of the wonderful sports women you are. All of the years of sacrifice, the pain you have put your body through and your success and achievements can never be taken from you. Australia, and the world are so, so thankful for you.
Although the basketball community and so many of us refuse to accept your retirement, it has been so honestly earned. You have pushed your body beyond all expectations, and finally, your true dreams were realised when you were blessed with darling Harry.
Lauren it was an honour to be your team mate, to learn from you, to travel the world with you. It is however, more of an honour to have you as a close friend and to watch you flourish into the wonderful mum you are.
Thank you for being you, for believing in me, and for pushing me to become the best version of myself.
Love Abby & Zala
